Pool Pocket
Problem Statement: There are four sides and four corners. The corners are top left/right and bottom left/right.
Top Left: 1
Top Right: 2
Bottom Left: 3
Bottom left: 4
The dimensions have to be a whole number and you have to start at the bottom left. Your goal is to land inside a corner. You’ll have the ball going 45 degrees all the time. If the four corners are a square, then the ball will go straight into the top right corner with no rebounds. If the four corners are a triangle, then there will be at least one rebound. Rebounds are how many times the sides of the rectangle are hit. Dimensions tell you how big the rectangle is by centimeters. Process: First, I had to try to find out how many rebounds there will be with

How to Get a Good Workout in the Pool Working out in the pool might not seem like the most effective way to slim down and shape up, but a pool-based workout burns a surprising number of calories, boosts your metabolism, works every muscle in your body, and improves your over-all fitness level. Working out in the swimming pool is so effective because water provides natural resistance – as it is almost 800 times denser than air – so each movement that you make while submerged in water works your muscles harder than doing similar cardio- or strength-based exercise on dry-land. Getting Started Most people think that working out in the pool consists of jumping in and swimming a few lengths, but getting a decent workout in the pool requires a bit more effort. Training in…

P.O.W 14 Pool Problem Kainoa Harada Problem Statement: The problem in this P.O.W is to find a formula to find how many times a ball would rebound off a table, with varying squares and rectangles to take into equation. Though there can be two separate formulas for each figure. And if you believe, there is a SUPER FORMULA that a group can find once every school year... Process: The process I, and my group, used to solve this problem was simply counting the height and width then drawing the lines the pool ball would travel. Once it hit a whole that would mark the end of the line counting, and however many lines, while using our formula, is the amount of rebounds that figure had. The book backs this up with showing the rebounds of a rectangle,…

Introduction Dean Oliver’s book Basketball on Paper (2004) analyzes the skills and tactics that go into winning a basketball game. Oliver mentions four different stats that he believes are the driving factor to win a basketball game. In his book, Oliver gave each of those stats a weight, the weight was how important he thought that particular statistic was. Therefore, using this information to follow his footsteps with our own tweak on it, instead of using advanced stats we are using stats that have been kept track of for a long time.…

In the piece, “Pool Players,” George Rose paints in a style that at first glance appears to be almost abstract. But quickly, figures appear that give a sense of very intense movement. People are surrounding a pool table, leaning in for a shot, reaching out over the table, resting along the side, or straining over to see the result of pool balls colliding with one another. The view of the table is seen not at eye level or from above the pool table, but somewhere in between.…
