Probation Officer Essay

Good morning Dr. Brooks,

I got a call yesterday afternoon and I go the Probation/Parole Officer job! Thank you very much for writing the letter and your help. I am looking forward to the job. I am having to take a substantial pay decrease, but I believe I have to try to do this. The State does offer some better benefits. After six months they will pay for one class a semester, so after I get settled I hope to start working on my masters.

Thank you again for everything,

Jim Shipley

I graduated top ten percent of my class in High School and Magna Cum Laude in college and I continually try to increase the diversity of my knowledge so to become a better rounded person. I majored in Criminology and Criminal Justice and minored in Psychology, so through convention teaching methods I have gained a firm grip in the Social Sciences; however, its through my work experience that I have really grown.…

Felons are citizens and should be allowed to vote because the right to vote is proclaimed constitutionally to citizens at the age of 18. Many people are convicted of felonies- which inhibits their right to vote. However, decisions made in elections affect everyone, thus the opinions and concerns of felons should be counted as a fundamental right. Just because they are criminals, that does not take away their citizenship and basic rights as an American. Also, not all felons that are convicted are guilty, so taking away their right to vote further strips them of their individuality.…

A career in corrections appeals to me for a number of reasons. I enjoy working with other people and excel working with people from different backgrounds other than my own. While I was in the Army there was strong demand for a structured work environment. This is something I desire in a career and feel that corrections as other professions in law enforcement demand high level of structure and expect nothing less. To attain this expectation requires individuals to be highly disciplined, so they are able to give 100 percent every moment they are not only on the clock, but when you’re on your own time as well.…
