Proactive Classroom Support Staff Member

It seems as though having a proactive classroom support staff member is a positive thing for many of the students in the class. This helped prevent many of the common distractions found in the teacher’s students; which contributed to more time being spent on task. This could lead to an increase in student academics as their understanding of material develops. The main classroom teacher should encourage the other support staff members that work in his room to engage more with the students and put their phones down. It is clear that such steps would have positive results for the students and teacher. The student who was acting out was not worked with by the teacher for the majority of the day. Additionally, this would help encourage more positive interactions from the student in the future, because he would get positive results back. Not placing much focus on what the student was doing in the back of the class, could not guaranty student progress nor completion of assignments for the day. Even if a student is seated away from the group to work alone, they still need teacher interaction throughout their lessons. This can help prevent a positive student/teacher relationship from turning negative or resentful. Students with EBD can at times have difficulty controlling their emotions and thoughts. This can be reflected by students’ actions and create ongoing problems in the classroom. It seems as though, the teacher could have allowed the student to pick a book with the rest of the class. This could have been a form of reward for the student doing what was asked up until that point. Moreover, this would have been a form of positive reinforcement, because it would have encouraged the student to continue behaving appropriately for the privilege of interacting with his
