Every day the world around us is changing with medical advances, new cars, and politics. It is commonly said that history repeats itself. In the 1960’s marijuana became the most used drug among middle class americans. Marijuana comes from a leaf and has THC in it. The THC is the substance to get you high. Although in most states it is illegal, it is still very commonly used. The societal uses, changes, and impacts of marijuana from the 1900’s until present day in the United States have changed severely. Marijuana is cannabis which has short and long term effects to the human brain. The short term effects include things such as a high for about 30 minutes to an hour. It is usually smoked in joints, blunts, pipes, and bonds. Sometimes it …show more content…
The pros of marijuana come from its ability to help people. If the drug is used correctly it can be a new foundation on which studies can develop from. Many people can argue and say that it should not be legal and the benefits do not outstand the cons. Although it can heal people, the abuse of the drug can also hurt people. Marijuana, just like tobacco cigarettes, can cause bronchitis. If not taken carefully or with caution it can also hurt your immune system and increase the chance of lung infection. Not only can it have a detrimental effect on your health by being abused but also on society. People are scared kids will try marijuana and be more willing to try other drugs including heroin or cocaine. Many parents have the concern of how it will effect their kids lives if taken without reason. Other than social effects, marijuana has effects directly after its use. It causes many people to have short term effect such as red eyes, dry mouth, increased heart rate, and extreme paranoia. There are multiple studies that show where the brain is effected after smoking. It triggers the brain’s region for fear causing some people to feel anxious and get anxiety attacks.
