Pro-choice woman believe that abortions are a safe procedure that cause minimal harm to the mother. This is deceitful because abortion can cause health complications that are both physically and emotionally damaging to the mother. Many women that undergo this “safe procedure” end up suffering from immediate health complications. “The After Effects of Abortion” (AbortionFacts.com, 2016) states that there have been over a hundred health complications associated with undergoing an abortion. These complications range from minor complications, chronic abdominal pain or minor infection, to major complications, perforation of the uterus or cervical injury. Psychological effects significantly contribute to a woman’s health after an abortion. This article summarizes many studies on post-abortion psychological effects and has reported only one positive emotion, which is relief. Women tend to experience emotional relief after the procedure is done. After the momentary period of relief, abortion ends up taking a toll on the mental health of women. Studies have found that within eight weeks after a woman has undergone the abortion, “55% expressed guilt, 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, 31% had regrets about their decision, and 11% had been prescribed psychotropic medicine by their family doctor” (AbortionFacts.com, 2016, “The …show more content…
The two most common positions that people take pertaining to abortion are either pro-life or pro-choice. People tend to base their positions on morals, values, and beliefs. Abortion violates the rights of a human life because science supports the fact that a fertilized egg or zygote represents a developing human. The zygote is composed of human DNA that is from the male and female, which means that it is a human and not a form of another species. Without the interruption of abortion, the zygote will develop into a human being. Women that undergo an abortion can develop physical and psychological health complications. Physical health complications can occur during the medical procedure causing immediate health risks. Psychological complications progress after the medical procedure is finished and tend to greatly impact women’s emotional stability over the course of their lives. Lastly, federal and state laws have been implemented to regulate and limit a woman’s access to obtaining an abortion. These legislations make it harder for women to get an abortion making them more responsible for preventing the possibility of becoming pregnant.
