Ever since gaining independence, the United States has been in a constant state of debate on countless subjects. Abortion is one of the most profoundly discussed debates in the US today. Pro-life and pro-choice are the two sides of the argument within this debate. Abortion is a continuously controversial topic in the United States because of pro-life views of religious groups, gothic narratives about the horrors of abortion, possible health issues; conversely, there is the pro-choice understanding of why abortion is acceptable, such as the pro-choice religious groups, the woman’s right to choose, and federal and state law.
In current American culture, most pro-life activists are being dismissed while protesting abortion because of the religious factor. According to Shields (2013), pro-life supporters now use the philosophical approach against abortion so they can be heard. They have an inherent belief in an infant’s right to live, that abortions are murder. There are over three thousand pregnancy help centers that provide alternate choices to abortion that are mainly staffed by volunteers from the religious pro-life groups (Shields, 2013, p. 23). These centers focus on teaching classes on parenting, budgeting, and health; also, they help women who seek to put their baby up for adoption.
