Our world is divided by many different social issues. The diversity over the issue of abortion is loud and glaring. This highly debated matter courses through the populace around the world. There are so many aspects concerning abortion. Many of the main arguments include; the physical and mental effects, the morality of the situation, the preventive measures, and possible options besides abortion. Pro-life and Pro-choice are the main groups associated with this topic. They are each the antitheses of the other. Pro-life views the life of another human being to be more important than the consequences a woman would have to face by keeping an unwanted child. Pro-choice clinics report many cases of relief from women who have had abortions. However, they do not usually follow up with the patient’s mental health after an elongated amount of time following the event; therefore, many of their reports are incomplete. As mentioned before, abortion is an unnatural and invasive process to women. When the natural process of the body is interrupted or altered, there are sure to be negative distresses. Of course, each woman is unique in how she deals with or is effected by undergoing this procedure, but most women will have negative repercussions. The damage may not show itself right away, but the negative effects are sure to be present and interfere with the woman at some point. Stated by the Washington Times, “Researchers found those reporting an abortion prior to age 21 had rates of mental disorders from age 21 to 25 more than 11/2 times higher than the rates for women who did not become pregnant and those who became pregnant but did not abort.” (DQ Nothing needed here) While abortion may offer an immediate sense of relief for some, it leaves an emotional scar for most.
