With pro-life taking the religious, moral, and ethical to influence the views and expectations to how abortion is viewed in the United States (Lopez). Then there is pro-choice with the larger understanding of the circumstances the woman could be in, such as rape, mental or medical complications, lack of maturity, or just not ready for a child are among the series of reasoning behind why a woman would choose to have an abortion (Lunneborg 30). To understand further these standpoints, we must dig deeper into how each side views these main arguments from pro-life and pro-choice standpoints. This would come with a series of bills, amendments, and bans of which were emplaced to restrict the abortion function on a federal and state level (ProCon). Starting with the Hyde Amendment, which is designed to limit government funding for abortion through Medicaid (Planned Parenthood). It was later said by Henry Hyde, “ I certainly would like to prevent, if I could legally, anybody form having an abortion… Unfortunately, only vehicle available is the… Medicaid bill.” (Greenhouse and Siegal 7). Then there is the several bans such as the Federal Abortion Ban, which criminalizes any abortion performed in the second trimester (Greenhouse and Siegal 7). As well as including the 20-week ban, which bans any abortion after the twenty-week mark in a woman’s pregnancy (Greenhouse and Siegal 7). With these several bills, amendments, and bans carry a strong Republican view, which sides heavily with the pro-life ideals in regards to protecting the fetus from abortion
