GMO’s topic paper #6

Have you ever wondered what you are really putting in your body when you eat that big juicy steak? Advancement in technology has changed the way of living tremendously in the past couple of decades. Over the recent years, genetically modified organisms have slowly substituted our diets with genetically modified foods. This has harmfully been affecting the society we live in today along with producing unsafe side effects across the world. By consuming these genetically modified foods there are many questions and debates whether or not there is enough evidence to support the fact that GMO’s are truly harmful. Numerous scientists have argued that GMO’s are exactly the same as natural reproduction. However, many other scientists against GMO’s are arguing that it is a entirely different principle and posses a constant number of risks to the customers. So the real question is, where is the evidence that will bring the truth to the people

There is such limited evidence that we have resorted to testing animals to find out the truth and the results might be extremely scary to the public. A study conducted on pigs had resulted in harmful consequences for these animals that we eat on a daily basis. “GM-fed females had on average a 25% heavier uterus than non-GM-fed females, a possible indicator of disease that requires further investigation. Also, the level of severe inflammation in stomachs was markedly higher in pigs fed on the GM diet. The research results were striking and statistically significant”.( Evidence of GMO’s). Even with this knowledge many individuals continue to argue that GMO’s are a great benefit to society and should continued to be used across the world. Do you really want to be consuming products we really don’t know much about but have had such results that have been detrimental to

For years, there has been a serious debate regarding whether genetically modified foods are safe for consumption. Due to this seemingly everlasting controversy came the rise of pro-GMO and anti-GMO groups. To truly understand the severity of the issue, it is important to first understand what exactly a “GMO” is and why it supposedly poses a threat to civilization. A Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) is an organism in which “genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially placed into another plant or animal” (Institute for Responsible Technology). Doing so allows for a crop to grow at a higher yield and lower cost.…

In recent years, the outcry of people against genetically modified food, or GM food, has become increasingly prominent in both commercial and governmental practices. GM foods have a negative connotation; people think that eating something that has been modified is going to poison their body. Not only that, but most of the American public believes that in doing this, humans are playing god, and have gone too far. However, none of this is true. So far, none of the GM food currently on the market has any ill-effects on humans.…

16 Oct. 2015. This article is about the suppression of the dangers of GMO research because of GMO foods for example causing tumors in rats. The author whom taught psychology seems heavily biased against GMO research because he believes it’s a plan to replace small farmers with mega farms which produce a much more expensive product. The audience of the author would be those who are opposed to GMO research so he would meet little opposition. The author is very thorough and thought provoking in showing us how terrible the industry is in trying to get us to eat their product despite its detriment to our health all for the sake of money.…

The experiment proved that the mice that ate the GMOs were more likely to develop many health issues, and the mortality rate of the young was higher as well. However the detailed results of the mice that were fed organic food were not provided. With this somewhat bias information provided it can only be inferred that the organic fed mice were left in a better state then the GMO fed mice after the…

However, evidence does not show much support for the “toxicity” of genetically modified crops. Companies, independent scientists, and organizations have done thousands of studies, some of which I cited in my paper, in search any health risks in GMOs. Not only that, many major scientific and medical organizations have supported GMO, and the billions of livestock consuming them show no negative effects. My paper contains well researched evidence in order to persuade others. However, the weakest part of the argument in my opinion, may not have done this as well.…

Ali3 Many people have a huge misconception about GMOs especially GM foods that they are harmful to both the human body and the environment, but various studies have proven quite the opposite. GMOs can bring a plethora of benefits to almost every industry ranging from medical use to agricultural but is held back by a majority that believes in false accusations and unsupported studies. GMOs have the backing of almost every scientist and person who knows even a little about the subject of biotechnology yet still there is a huge opposition of mainly people who have fallen to Anti-GMO propaganda. In May 2016 the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine issued a report about GMOs saying they “found no substantiated evidence that foods from GE crops were less safe than foods from non-GE crops.”…

A study conducted by the Union of Concerned Scientists concluded that “GMOs do not, on average, increase yields at all” (10 Reasons to Avoid GMOs 2). In fact, they also concluded that “...GMOs have nothing to offer the goals of reducing hunger and poverty, improving nutrition, health and rural livelihoods” (10 Reasons to Avoid GMOs 2). Companies like Monsanto that use GMOs want us to believe that GMOs are safe and part of our future. The position that supports GM crops does not consider the health of consumers in the long-term and how other animals will be affected. For these reasons, I strongly disagree with the use of GMOs.…

Every day young adults across the nation consume food purchased by their parents, lunches prepared by their school cafeterias, and meals from their favorite restaurants, and are unconcerned and unaware of the ingredients contained in food products, and furthermore do not partake in choosing what they consume. Unfortunately, teenagers are consuming Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) almost constantly, whether they realize it or not. GMOs first commercialized in 1994, are genetically engineered through a process which consists of inserting foreign DNA from bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans into their primary species, resulting in various unintentional health consequences (GMO Awareness). The plethora of unknown results stemming from this genetic modification process, raise the important question of whether GMOs are safe for humans. Without further action, the human population will remain endangered due to the negative health effects of the genetic modification process, and young adults will continue to be most susceptible to these threats because of their unfinished development.…

However, the evaluation of the scientific solution has a disadvantage despite-it-all advantage of economics and environments. It hasn’t been proven whether if the GMO has detrimental effects or not on human beings because, the GMO’s only been developed for 30~40 years and hasn’t gone through a long-term verification. Moreover, scientists don’t have conviction about what kind of serious impact would mingle genes give to plants or animals. A lot of GMOs such as corns, soybeans etc. have already been consumed, and increasing crop yield is a true fact.…
