Some teams spend countless hours of practicing for a few dance numbers to prepare for their competitions. Once you arrive at a competition, you will register and then compete! You can have any amount of people you want on your team during your number. While you are performing, a panel of judges will score you based on technical skills, precision, showmanship, memory, and overall impression (Nda.varsity.com). The team with the highest overall will win first or overall, depending on the competitions preference. This technique of scoring is comparable to gymnastics, but gymnastics is considered a sport. So why is dance never given credit for being a sport? Someone opposing my opinion might say, that in order to be a sport there must be a ball in the game or more physical activity. But, according to the webster dictionary definition of sport, a sport is a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other (Merriam-Webster). Competitive dancing is a contest, it also requires physical activity, the competition does have rules, and many teams compete against one
