Fairy tales teach us right from wrong. When a character’s actions get them in trouble, it makes us think what they could have done to avoid that situation. They also teach us about different cultures and about how other people have different ways of doing certain things. Fairy tales often have different cultures represented in them, they make children interested in learning about other cultures.

Fairy tales may be fun to read and they have many benefits but there are also some not good things about them. Many, if not all, put unrealistic views in children’s heads. Like why does the guy always get the girl? Why can’t she just be independant? Sure in ‘Frozen’ Elsa ends up alone, but what about all of the others? And why do almost all the princesses have a hard childhood?
Take Cinderella for example, after he mother died her father married her evil stepmom and along with her stepmom came her evil stepsisters, after her father died he stepmom and stepsisters were very cruel to her made made her do all the chores, she never got to do anything fun. Sure in the end she ends up with the guy of her dreams. Flawless right?
Fairy tales also have storylines that many parents do not want their kids to read. ‘Little Red Ridding Hood’ for example, this tale shows a young girl going into the dangerous woods alone and walking into her grandmother’s home to find that her grandmother is being held captive by a wolf. That story message is not something that they want to read to their kids. What about ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’?
