Outsourcing grew out of manufacturers’ concern to lower costs of production. In order to gain a competitive edge in the global economy, American business owners looked towards cheap labor offered overseas. Ultimately outsourcing led to more jobs being available for foreigners while American citizens were suffering. Outsourcing enables American businesses to become more profitable through increasing revenue. It has helped the country gain global recognition for its stable economy. Although outsourcing is beneficial for American business owners, it does not benefit the citizens of America because it leads to a decline in jobs, living standard, and confidentiality.

Job loss causes people to lose their ability to afford basic necessities. It also has a negative impact on the emotional health of people. “Unfortunately, a rapid changing post-modern economy is less uplifting, and is putting more downward pressure on millions of our fellow Americans. For the first time in our history, Americans aren’t dreaming of a better life for their children-they are desperately hoping that their children won’t be forced into a lower standard of living and lower quality of life” (39). ‘The death of distance: Outsourcing, white collar exodus’ film involves many companies moving their call centers and contracts to foreign countries, this is called outsourcing. They particularly look at areas in southern Asia, for example countries like India, Malaysia, etc. This is a lot cheaper for big companies because it allows them to cut their wage salary lower because the quality of living is lower in LEDC’S (less economically developed countries). United States of America is a MEDC (more economically developed country), this means if a lot of companies are outsourcing to south Asian countries this can have a negative impact on globalization of the United States. This is due to outsourcing, and this is because of major companies setting up their call centers in other countries than USA. This doesn’t create new jobs in USA which can cause unemployment rates to rise, this can lead to an incline in homelessness, which all in all effects the economy and the well being of…

We may send a lot of our manufacturing jobs over seas because it is much cheaper to create a t-shirt or assembly electronics outside of the United States. But we are still the world’s third-largest exporter because America is still a great place to fabricate a large passenger plane, make refined machine tools or fabricate computer software (Levy and Scott 22). If America were to turn away from free trade and block the outsourcing of t-shirts and assembling electronics then other countries would stop buying American-made planes, tools and computer software. Also, the money saved from outsourcing jobs can help create more jobs in America. Joe Somebody wants to start up his own engineering company; he needs a customer service call company to help his customers with their orders or products. A customer service call company in India will charge Joe $98,000 a year to cover all his needs: whereas, a company in New York wants to charge him $250,000 a year. Joe decides to go with the company in India not only because they are cheaper but also because this frees up $152,000 a year and he can hire employees making more jobs available in America. Cheaper services provided from countries overseas opens up money that can be used to pay American workers (Levy and Scott 22). As Philip Levy stated, “Some of the best goods and services come from the U.S.; others come from abroad. Outsourcing and trade give U.S. businesses and…

Outsourcing America, in my opinion, has been bad, as someone who was a displaced worker at one time due to the company that I worked for closing down and moving to Mexico. The benefits of outsourcing have been enormous. For workers in poverty ridden countries, it has meant jobs and fast rising standards of living. For some industries, lower labor costs have brought higher profits. Modern consumers are enjoying access to more goods at lower prices. The price of the product would have cost more if manufactured or produced in the United States. However, with the unskilled labor force dwindling down many people find themselves in poverty. Individuals in poverty cannot afford to go out and spend money unnecessarily if no one is spending money…

The amount of outsourcing in America has greatly increased over the years since the first real use of outsourcing in the 1970’s/1980’s. This increase in outsourcing hit its highest once the 21first century started, and has ceased to decline since. I found this topic interesting many years ago, and first learned of it through my father. I expanded my knowledge through the news, online articles, and debates over the issue. I plan on presenting my issue to new unfamiliar audiences by defining what outsourcing is, how it’s done, who it affects, and how it affects them. Outsourcing jobs that would be in America to foreign countries has made the U.S. dependent on others instead of being the national powerhouse that was independently ran, and managed…

Outsourcing is “The process of obtaining goods or services from outside suppliers or to contract work out instead of getting it done by its own employees.” An example of outsourcing would be how the tech company Apple’s products are designed in California, but assembled in China. Apple does this for a few reasons, one being the lower minimum wages. A common wage for the some 250,000 workers presently working in a single factory for the company Foxconn,( which is a company commonly used by many other businesses in the assembly of products) is around $17.00 US. Another advantage of having over a quarter million workers at your disposal is the ability to produce goods at a very fast pace. A positive effect outsourcing has, in accordance to sustainable prosperity, would be the obvious lower price of goods for consumers. Also, many jobs are created because of outsourcing, which helps economies overseas as well as their populations. Many potential workers would be jobless without outsourcing and because of it, the prosperity for all these workers is something made possible. A potential downfall for this form of globalization is the inevitable exploitation of these foreign workers, being paid low wages and not receiving the benefits that they should be entitled to. It also takes away thousands of jobs that could be filled in the home countries of these…

    Essay On Offshoring

Blinder makes valid points on the rise of offshoring and how our economy may suffer from it. What he fails to mention is the fact that with America having such a dense population, the public can have a major effect on whether offshoring occurs, and if so to what degree it occurs. Self-protectionism is a key issue in American politics, such as the “Buy American Act”, and it is not to be taken lightly. Many jobs have already been lost to other countries through outsourcing. The self-awareness Americans have that offshoring is becoming an epidemic that will further threaten the American way of life, may be reason enough for companies to reconsider offshoring. The American offshoring companies may find themselves put out of business by the same people they are attempting to not pay in order to improve profits. This is self-defeating in itself. Blinder is not giving credit to America to reinvent herself and mitigate in another…
