Since around 1980, our agriculture system went from paying farmers not to grow food to paying farmers to grow as much food as they could. Therefore, consumption portion sizes increased as well. We as Americans are exposed to huge food portions every day, from restaurants to shopping at the supermarket. It has become the norm to eat large meals, but overtime these huge potions causes weight gain if not balanced out with physical activity. Americans are surrounded by ads from unhealthy food companies constantly every day (Park, 2009). What we don’t realize is when we eat a high calorie snack or drink, we automatically get a burst of energy that last for a short period of time, then you become hungry even faster then must eat again and again. Many people do not have access to healthy foods, especially the poorest people in our country. It is easier for them to get a full meal from McDonald’s or Jack in the Box for $5 rather than just a couple pieces of fruit or vegetables from the grocery store with the same $5. It is sad that you can buy a McDonald’s hamburger cheaper than fresh fruit. Notably, low income children struggle with being overweight (Park, 2009). These children are more likely to become overweight adolescent
