I often referred to people being privilege pertaining to the individual’s financial or economic status. To be privileged means to be of elevated economic means. To have a privileged background means that one’s family had material wealth. What I learned from this chapter is privilege refers to the amount of melanin in a person skin, hair and eyes. The more melanin a person has the less privilege or racial advantage he or she receives.
