Privilege In The Middle Class

My perspective on the themes that emerged from our in-class discussions is that all these concepts/factors correlate with one another somehow. They relate to the social issues that we face today. I strongly feel that the way we behave and what we experience determines how we feel towards certain issues like racial profiling or underpaid women. Also, where we fit in society, like if we’re non-disable people or heterosexuals determines our perceptions on things too. For instance, what came up in one of our readings in class was the concept of privilege. How “privilege exists when one group has something value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to.” I agree with this meaning of privilege because in our society we are put in groups/categories. For example, dealing with comfortable living the middle class have an advantage over the poor class. That is just how our system works. …show more content…
I understood where I stood in society, poor class. I’ve realized that how I was brought up too influence my decision making towards the specific issues that affect me. Since, I was saved by Jesus Christ my savior, my judgment towards sexual orientation felt a little uncomfortable for me to justify in such a way because a great amount of people don’t wait until marriage to get intimate. Yet, I’m not judging them in a bad way either because things do happen.
