Private prisons have been having an issue on the good information since they are business with the aim of generating greatest profits by all the means that area available. Do prisoners develop “prison norms” once they are incarcerated (deprivation) or do they bring values to the prison from the “street” (importation)
Correctional institutions tend to confine variety of law offenders from the vast population. The prisoners mostly don’t develop the norms from the prison but rather import them from other inmates in an attempt of social reintegration. They also tend to import the norms so as to ease the pains that they undergo while in prison and also do away with the trauma of incarceration when they are encountered with a situation that is stressful. The social system of the inmates should learn to be complicated and have unusual norms that are different from the people who are in a free society. The hypothesis of norms importation has suggested that when the inmates get into the custody, they import the norms based on the streets into the prison. However, some research has shown that the norms from the street are quite different from those in the prison (Skarbek, 2012).
There are those inmates that are likely to learn the norms quickly while others never learn them well. The likely first commitment of an inmate is ignoring the norms due to misinterpretation of their meanings. The prison code is unofficial for organizing the inmates informally. The code tends to depict prisons as violent, place with chaos and a predatory jungle. The prison code admonishes the new inmates so as to avoid getting into disputes with others. There are various versions of the prison codes which include not gambling, not messing with drugs, not messing with homosexuals, no stealing, no borrowing or lending and this will help one to survive (Hospital, 1998)

Due to the increased number of women inmates in the prisons, who have been caught with cases on drugs, the courtrooms and the legislatures have been fighting to ensure the system of justice treats the female prisoners well. This is through protection of their health, ensuring their safety in the custody and facilitating the successful reentry back in the society.
Prisons and jails are required to entitle female prisoners with rights such as reduction of incarceration, ensuring that the conditions in the prison are fair for them, treating them with justice fairness and dignity and providing a humane environment for them. Women should also be taken care in areas of ensuring there is enough reproductive health care, the opportunity for shackling in times of pregnancy and be given appropriate mental health facilities
