What do you picture when you hear the word “lawyer?” You most likely see people like Michael Clayton, Atticus Finch, Tom Cruise or even Matt Damon. You think of the amazing cases about civil rights. You imagine the money they make from taking down the “big” corporations in court. What I’m trying to say is people who are on the outside of law offices see the mask that is put up by studios and media. But in reality the majority of defense lawyers know but only one truth: that they will struggle for the most of their career until they get their chance to shine from a big private law firm. While private defense attorneys are getting thousands of dollars from big cases, public defenders receive pennies compared to them and take in almost double the amount of cases they do. Society has put up a shield that they think helps public defenders but it actually hurts them. It prevents public defenders from discussing their issue and forcing them to tolerate people shouting out, “You make so much money, why do you care,” or “Its what you signed up for.” But when you look at it from their perspective, they didn’t sign up …show more content…
It wasn’t really the justice part but it was more about listening to people problems. When I was younger, I was always fond of listening to people's problems and no matter how insane the solution be, I always would create some solution. I loved helping people with their problems because it made me feel better as a person and a citizen of society. But I have a problem. The problem is that the public justice system is crumbling. This crumbling pushes away children like me growing up wanting to become a lawyer. I understand I can go straight to a private firm but if every generations lawyers goes straight to a private firm, we will have almost zero public defenders, which will put us back where we began. That’s my personal connection to my issue and why I’m deciding to chose this
