Because I am a teenager and most of my friends are teenagers, I agree with Marwick and Boyd. Teenagers generally value privacy and want their privacy to be respected. Although boundaries vary person to person, I think that essentially everyone holds a basic desire to keep personal information personal. Privacy contributes to a feeling of independence especially if teens interpret as “the ability to control their situation.” Control is very important to teenagers who are constantly under the watchful eyes of parents and teachers. Unfortunately, “information is intrinsically intertwined” in social media, so complete control is impossible.
