The United States and Afghanistan share a couple of more serious problems. Overcrowding is a big problem in both. For instance, the U.S. has many places that are at 96% capacity. The high capacity of the prisons has caused a need for major spending extra beds and caused prisons to deny prisoners basic needs and access to health care. Afghan prisons are half renovated and defective, they are built to house about 5000 prisoners, but have as many as 7300. Politics and their government’s lack of funds hinder fixing some problems, but they receive foreign help from places like the U.S. and Britain. Better prison conditions have somewhat happened because of the U.S. but help has been halted and things are left half finished. However the government with the help of human rights watch is prioritizing an end of torture and abuse. As well as ending torture and abuse they are trying to supply better health care. The Red Cross has stepped, they now have doctors and nurses who have a clinic and are on standby for emergencies. They hand out medicine, emphasize better hygiene and give consultations on a regular basis.
