Letting criminals with even misdemeanors crimes or others because they haven’t committed that many crimes doesn’t mean they aren’t going to do it again. There are many alternative solutions available that should be offered to resolve the issue of prison overcrowding such as boot camps, probation, participating in community service, house arrest. All first time offenders or nonviolent offenders should either be out upon these alternatives but if these alternatives do not help them change their behavior at all then seek prison time for them. If isolating these offenders from society is the only way to rehabilitate them, then there is no other choice. At least trying these alternatives with less serious offenders would decrease the issue of overcrowding and the costs of prisons by a huge amount. Anything and everything needs to be tried before directly just sending first time offenders into prisons.
