With that said state and federal prison overcrowding has continued to have a bad impact in the United States correctional facilities because of the increase in inmate population and the demand for lower corrections costs. With this being an issue that the system cannot solve has also resulted in a high demand of living space for prisoners. Many correctional facilities are operating under hazardous conditions because of this issue and some other issues, which include operating past the maximum capacity. With the high number of prisoners being sent to jail or prison have made it even more difficult for guard’s to place many other inmates to their high maximum security block which is only supposed to be used for high defense inmates that are too dangerous to be in the cell block …show more content…
and its reason for crime rate to drop is because of the fact that the criminals who are arrested and taking to court to face the judge is that the judges now a days are being harder and stricter on the criminals who make an offense again and are given harsher sentences. Some judges say that by giving harsher sentencing to the offenders will give them a reality wake up call, but in reality it does not do that because in some cases it builds more anger and violence in the inmate causing a bigger problem but the judges don’t see it that way. An example of how bad overcrowded prisons are when given harsh sentences for minor offenses show from the FBI as of 2011 is that over 2.3million adults were incarcerated in prisons all in the United States. And another statistic shown and said by the FBI is that the state of California has the high most overcrowded prisons in all of the United
