There are many stories about people rising beyond their mistakes, receiving an education while incarcerated in order to rehabilitate themselves and re-enter society as a productive citizen.
There are people however who believe that a tax payers money should be placed elsewhere, such as back into our school system or into programs for people who are in poverty.

Some people believe people who have committed a crime should not have the option to gain a free education while incarcerated, because they gave up their rights when they committed the crime. People also believe if a person goes to prison that person is there for punishment and not rehabilitation.
