The printed ad I choose is from the Gold’s gym, which has a history for more than 50 years. The purpose of the ad is to attract to more people to become their membership and join the personal training assessment. Without focus on the verbal slogan on the ad, “Today, a strong workout; Tomorrow, a stronger future. ”, nonverbal elements include using the body shape, hairstyle, facial expression, xxxx also send the message that you will become the person as the same as the character on the ad, in a good shape and attractive. The target of this printed ad is young people who are fond of working out. First, let us take a look of the message sent from the body shape. On the ad, three young people are in mesomorph. According to the textbook, “The mesomorph was rated stronger, more masculine, better looking, more adventurous, younger, taller, more mature in behavior and more self-reliant” (Knapp et al., 172). For example, if you take the action of joining the Gold’s gym and keep working out since then, you will eventually get the ideal shape. When guys are becoming more masculine, girls are having graceful curves. Why body shape matters? It suggests the sign of how healthy a person is and the person’s attitude toward the lifestyle. Since it is within a small group, you will most likely to get much attention from the coach. He/she keeps tracking on the progress of each trainee and gives the feedbacks correspondingly. In the printed ad, the coach who leads the trainee to do some gentle stretching exercises is an African-American. No matter where you come from or who you are, you are all welcomed to join the Gold’s Gym. On the side, barbells in different weight are waiting for people to lift them
