Principal investigator-The first person I chose to explore was principal investigator (PI).. The first challenge faced involved deciding whether or not to send a visibly Greg home. I chose to send him home because he was visibly tired and the likelihood that his work would be subpar or involve mistakes would increase. In addition to preventing costly mistakes, I sent Greg home for his own health, and to let him know that PIs believe in rest. Next, Kim approached the PI with a problem while he was talking to Greg about exciting data. I chose to attend to Kim. The first challenge he faces is how he should respond to the PI when the PI suggests that Hardik’s findings should suit the hypotheses. I chose to let it go. I did not want Hardik to promise material he may not be able to deliver. He would have to wait before he can say he is close to something big and he knows that he cannot ethically change the data to fit the hypothesis. Next, Hardik had to choose between returning for an 8-hour time point or having dinner with his wife. I chose to return to to conduct the 8 hour timepoit. If Hardik wants to generate promising data, he has to conduct the experiments at he required time pointso that he can worry less about his visa standing and secure a job for his family. Additionally, he has more time now to generate more data especially of he will lose lab time once the baby is born. The next challenge Hardik faces is whether or not to go RCR training. I chose to go. Although I belived that Hardik knows RCR rules, listening to the rules could remind him of something he has been forgetting to do or something he missed last time. Later, Hardik messed up a western blot and had to decide whether he could go for a break or not. I chose to go for a break because a time out may relax Hardik enough for him to focus and prevent further for the remainder of the day. Later, Hardik’s wife calls to remind him about dinner which is in conflict with his 8 hour time point. I chose to freeze the product, go to dinner and see if this step did not interfere with the results the next day. Freezing and proceeding with the experiment would be useful to to find out if freezing can be an option for future time conflicts. After dinner is Hardik’s 12-hour time point and leaving would mean saying goodbye to his wife’s parents earlier than planned. I chose to say goodbye and go back to lab.
