Princess Leia Organa's Female Role Model

Improved Essays
If you could choose anyone to be for a brief period of time, who would you be? A simple question you may think, but take a minute. There are so many people in the history of the world that it may seem impossible. Some may choose a historical figure like Abraham Lincoln, whereas others may choose a Celebrity like Samuel L. Jackson. In my case, I chose someone who has been an inspiration to me since I was a kid, Princess Leia Organa from Star Wars. Although she is a fictional character , I believe she is a strong female role model for this society because she is not afraid to stand up for what is right, she is intuitive and strong willed, and she defies the "damsel in distress" stereotype, which is something I would love to stand for.

When people first come to the United States of America, they come here for one specific purpose. During the Great Strike 1913-14 & the Ludlow Massacre, I would want to be John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Although Rockefeller, Jr. was blamed for the all the problems causing the strike, he did not know in reality what was going on. He took over the company CF&I from his dad, during the strike and naively believed that everything was under control with the miners who were on strike. After the strike and the massacre, Rockefeller, Jr. had visited southern Colorado to honor the fallen miners from the Ludlow Massacre and cried over the injustice that had happened. I would want to be Rockefeller, Jr. because he showed willingness to change the miners working environment unlike his dad and the businessman, who had little interest on being fair.…

She was strong and loyal to her friend and her family (despite what had happened to her while she was with her mother). I think one of the things I loved the most about her was how realistic her grief was. Sure, there was hate towards her mother for doing what she did – but it never took over and she still felt grief. She reminded me of a trapped dog, sweet and cuddly to those who showed her kindness but a rabid animal to those with opposite intentions. She does some pretty silly things though, dumb and completely idiotic things, but it didn’t take away from her character as a whole.…

I feel this is a great topic idea, especially for Star Wars. There are numerous examples within Star Wars that demonstrate how Princess Leia is not just an ordinary princess. For example, one of the scenes I enjoyed is right after Luke rescues Princess Leia from her cell. Instantly after Luke and Han Solo rescue her from her cell, they become pinned down by continuous blaster fire from the Stormtroopers. While the guys are trying to come up with an escape plan, Princess Leia grabs Luke’s blaster and fires at a grate in the wall, creating a means of escape.…

The Problems with my Childhood Hero: Hermione Granger As children, we all felt drawn to someone, whether they be fictional or real, who made us believe that we could be better than we actually are, some people call it a role model or personal hero. These people are those who you, as a child, aspired to be like. When I was a child, my hero, besides my mother that is, was Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. Despite the fact that I loved and looked up to Hermione as a child, today I now realize how wrong of me that was, because, like many other strong female characters, Hermione was always portrayed as inferior to the male characters around her.…
