The day had come for Prince Casper and Princess Alara to journey across the vast nation of Sway. It had been tradition to always send a Prince from the east side of the kingdom to meet a Princess (from a different lineage, of course) who lived on the west side of the kingdom. Both royals must make the dangerous trek to the very center of their kingdom, in order for a grand wedding to take place. Only seven guards and two handmaidens remained. Princess Alara felt ashamed at how she dragged them across Sway, only for them to perish along the way. While she grieved, her surviving company consoled her and thanked her for her strength and wit that saved them from the monster in the marsh. Princess Alara marveled at the decorations that draped between each house, and realized with more unease that she would become a married women within the next few days. She began to weave through the crowded streets towards the mansion where she would be staying at, eager to meet her soon-to-be husband.
Princess Alara waltzed into the white marble foyer, trying desperately to look acceptable in her torn dress and dirt streaked face. Her eyes followed the young, handsome gentleman who made his way down the grand staircase in front of her. She hadn’t met Prince Casper yet, could this be him? He was dressed in an impeccable suit and bowed properly in front of her.
“Hello, Princess Alara, I am Prince Casper. Finally you have arrived! I hope your journey here was enjoyable. I can definitely say mine was not- some of the villages didn't even bring me welcome gifts! I had to walk through the grasslands absolutely deprived of presents!” Prince Casper finished his speech completely serious and woebegone.
“Oh, really?” Alara made out through gritted teeth. “How dreadful.”
She began to plan her escape later that
