Prince Rogers Nelson, known as Prince, was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor. Prince was born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a musical trailblazer and known for his work, brilliant stage presence, extravagant costumes and a wide vocal range. His music had a wide variety of styles, including rock, funk, soul, R&B, and pop. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artist of all time. He has won seven Grammy awards, a Golden Globe award and an Academy award for the film Purple Rain. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. A few weeks before, Prince had cancelled a show because he was getting a cold, and after a show one week later he had been hospitalized briefly with flu-like symptoms. On April 21, 2016, American musician Prince died at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Reporters say this was a drug related death and was an overdose on painkillers.
