I volunteered on Friday for MADD at Chimp Haven. Chimp Haven was founded in Caddo Parish in 2000. The parish granted the land of two hundred acres for Chimp Haven which was behind Eddie Jones park. Chimp Haven is a sanctuary for chimpanzees that are retired from bio medical research, pets, and used as entertainment purposes. The chimps that are recused are provided with a place that is could live in groups together and spacious for their needs.…
1. How do capuchin monkeys obtain meat from clams? Is this a learned behaviour? The capuchin monkeys have learned that if they hit the clams hard enough on a tough surface for a long enough duration of time, the shells will begin to relax and can be opened.…
Bonobos are smart and well-rounded animals because they are omnivores, however, their diet consists of mostly fruits. During the off seasons of these staple resources, they must rely on fallback food when their preferred foods are unavailable. Extremely social animals, Bonobos search for their food by using a unique form of communication to locate and inform their group members of the food source. A bonobo’s diet consists of mainly fruits, but despite this preference, they have a highly diverse diet.…
After clocking in I went to greet the Primate team who were gathering their food dishes from the Animal Nutrition Service. The Squirrel Monkeys are positive for Herpesvirus saimiri and are deadly to other primate species so their food must be kept separate from the others. The keepers discussed issues that would pertain to other keepers for that day.…
I was born October 31, 1905, in Fairfield Iowa. I first attended college at Reed College in Portland Oregon for one year. After taking a special test I later enrolled in Stanford University as an English Major. I struggled through the first semester and acquired horrible low grades so I in turn decided to switch my major to psychology. In 1930 I earned my Ph.D. in psychology and I decided to change my last name from Israel to my current surname, Harlow.…
Abdulla Haider- Arianna Javier- Juan Esparza Professor Mejia Anthropology 101 5-18-18 Old World Monkeys Old world monkeys, which vary in species, can be found in many locations throughout the African and Asian Continents. They can be found in most of Africa, central to southern Asia, India and Japan. They belong to family Cercopithecidae, which share a few characteristics with New World Monkey, unlike their location. There are two main subfamilies of Old World Monkeys. The first, Cercopithecine, is the largest of the two subgroups.…
, the free encyclopedia The silky sifaka (Propithecus candidus), found only in Madagascar, has been on The World's 25 Most Endangered Primates list since its inception in 2000. Between 100 and 1,000 individuals are left in the wild. The World's 25 Most Endangered Primates is a list of highly endangered primate species selected and published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Species Survival Commission Primate Specialist Group (IUCN/SSC PSG), the International Primatological Society (IPS), and Conservation International (CI).[1] The 2012–2014 list added the Bristol Conservation and Science Foundation (BCSF) to the list of publishers.[2]…

I aim to explore what is needed in order to be human. Can we turn to science for an answer? Some paleoanthropologists identify the category of the human with the species Homo sapiens, others equate it with the whole genus Homo, some restrict it to the subspecies Homo sapiens, and a few take it to encompass the entire hominin lineage. These differences of opinion are not due to a scarcity of evidence. They are due to the complete absence of what sort of evidence can settle the question of which group or groups of primates should be counted as human.…
The animals of the order Primates are comprised of muddled up characteristics of various modified adaptations and numerous range of movements. Firstly, all possesses limber shoulders and hip joints to have more flexible movements. Secondly, five digits, opposable thumbs and big toes provides them sense of sensitivity, touch and also provides depth of perception as well. Thirdly, they possesses clavicle, nail on first toe and large brain to have swift behavior towards environmental harshness and other extreme conditions with ability to think critically. Further, they are endothermic along with segmented deuterostomes.…
One of the questions I asked was if the gorillas in Uganda were decreasing in population because of the humans? As I did research, I found that the mountain gorilla population in Uganda has been decreasing for over one hundred years. With further research, I found a different question. I wanted to research how the mountain gorilla population has changed since we discovered we’ve been hunting them almost to the point of extinction? To gather data, I started with the first recorded data of the mountain gorilla population in Uganda.…
Similarly, the fact our single ancestor of the chordate phylum survived severe radiation during the Cambrian period means we exist today. If a small group of primates had not evolved upright posture on the plains of Africa three million years ago, we would still be apes. Clearly evolution is opportunistic as shown by life’s progress and earth’s biodiversity.…
I think monkeys and humans need social interaction to have a long and happy life. Just like humans they crave attention. You can see this happen in research laboratories even when it is painful they still interact with the scientists. We can compare monkeys to us in so many ways including behaviors, family groups and social interaction. I think we could learn a lot from the monkeys in observing how they behave in all kinds of situations.…
Panda are a big ticket item in all zoos. Pandas bring prestige and fame to a zoo. What most people don’t know though, is that fame and prestige cost a lot of money. For each panda that a zoo has, it cost them one million dollars per year plus another six hundred thousand dollars every time a cub is born. On top of that, the money that the zoos make annually is not enough to cover the cost of the pandas (Washington Post 2).…
Great apes survival project Do you know that over the past 20 years, surveys indicated there is a continual decline in apes population? The population of apes has further declined from the number 100,000 in 1980, and this decline will continue if we don’t help them to survive. Most apes live in Cameroon and Congo basins and other central African equatorial regions. These apes share 99% of the human DNA. They can live up to 60 years and they are capable of intelligent communication.…
