Secondary Stakeholders

One of the most important stakeholders, yet the least bit powerful nor influential in decision making Oil and Gas Workers (2 influence and 2 power) are essential to the industry, yet they are treated as pawns in the game of Fracking and Shale oil and gas. An article written by Alexandra Berzon for the Wallstreet journal reveals that “In 2012, the most recent year for which data are available, North Dakota’s overall rate of workplace deaths shot up to 17.7 fatalities per 100,000 workers—five times the national average.”(Berzon, 2015) Seen as a key player without a voice, these men have to put their lives on hold and on the line just so they could make a quick buck. Ironically, the least influential of the stakeholder feeds the bigger players by sacrificing now for what they see as a better future. As much value as we put into our humanity and our being, these men are nothing more than voiceless pawns to the loud kings of the industry.

Customers (2 influence and 1 power) are secondary stakeholder, who in his mind has the power to make a change. However, the reality is he is a tertiary character to the other players in the field. No matter what he says or what he does, he would still depend on the other player because what they produce is an inherent need to him.
