As stated, NPs suggest great economic benefit to primary care as their medical services can provide increased productivity and revenue. Additionally, primary care NPs are more likely to provide care in rural and urban areas, practice in community health settings, and serve a high percentage of uninsured and vulnerable populations. Therefore, NPs would serve an enormous advantage to the current primary care shortage areas as the supply of family medicine physicians are decreasing. With the influx of NPs in primary care, there are predicted improvements in primary care outcomes, patient satisfaction, and reductions of emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and mortality rates.
