Bjorgul K, Reikeras O (Jun 2006) did a prospective study of 683 patients with displaced femoral neck fractures treated primarily internal fixation or by hemiarthroplasty and were followed up for 1-6 years. They found out that 24 % of patients treated by osteosynthesis had to undergo revision while only 2 % of patients who had primarily undergone hemiarthroplasty required revision surgery. There was no significant mortality among the groups at 30, 120 or 365 days. In grossly osteoporotic bone with wide intramedullary canal, cemented hemiarthroplasty should be used. In case of frail, elderly with co-morbidities uncemented hemiarthroplasty would be good for them to tolerate nursing
