The burden of the Holocaust in German identity, while proving to bring out a change in the world, may be becoming crippling rather then uplifting. The lessons of guilt turning into fascinations, the forced identify to conform to the villains of history causing resentment, creating a movement that produces citizens of alt-right. To understand the depth Hitler’s legacy has modern German, is to understand the identity and psyche that is carried with Germans today. The Holocaust has and continues to play an immense role in the creation of German identity. Through most outlets of German society the Holocaust remains present, dictating political actions, arguments, and negating outside opinions. What my research has pointed to is that while Germany has embraced fully the role as a perpetrator, going to expansive lengths to create positive in the world, the burden of this guilt, and hate of ones past, could create a new wave of racism and violence against “outsiders” who threated to bring this guilt back
