Mr.Darcy is a gentleman who owns an estate called Pemberley, in Derbyshire, England. Mr.Darcy is introduced into the book by attending a ball with his friend, Mr. Bingley. While Mr. Darcy is at the ball he has a very proud like persona, and refuses to dance with any of the young ladies at the ball. Mr.Bingley points Elizabeth Bennet out to Mr.Darcy, however Mr.Darcy goes on saying, “She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me..” Ouch! This just shows the reader how snobby and pompous his character really was. On the other hand in the Movie Bride and prejudice directed by Gurinder Chadha, Darcy’s character is proven to be much less proud and arrogant.Mr. Darcy is a handsome man from America who is working in the family hotel business, making him a very wealthy man. In the movie Mr.Darcy sees “Lalita”, otherwise known as Elizabeth, and is swept away by her beauty. He approaches her and then finally begins to act proud once he starts talking to her. One can see that he is much more proud in the novel than in the movie by seeing how he did not even acknowledge Elizabeth or even ask her to dance with him like otherwise he did in the film.
