Paul and Prejudice: Comparative Essay on Tone and Perspective Both Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Willa Cather’s Paul’s Case share a variety of differences in tone and perspective. Although both works deal with trying to make sense of a situation, the way each story conveys their work are contrasting. One way each work differs is through the use of perspective. Having different styles of perspective drastically affects the flow of a story and how the reader can interpret the roles in a story. An example would be the reader diving into the thoughts of many characters, therefore acquiring more insight into the plot and is more “fair” in terms of judging the characters. On the other hand, if the reader only has one perspective due to only being exposed to one character, the reader would have a narrowed, “tunnel-visioned” view. Likewise, with Pride and Prejudice and Paul’s Case, they both share these points of views, respectively.

In this context, although the father could have had his own thoughts at the time, the readers could only interpret Paul’s mind.
