Some characters she uses to symbolize is Lady Catherine, Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Collins. It is assumed that the only separation among class is between the rich and poor, however through the novel it can be noted that there is in fact social separation even within the upper class. The social division rises as a conflict because the families wish for their children to stay within the social circles of the wealthy and marry to those with a steady income. Through this, it allows them to carry an amount of pride and prejudice they carry within their beliefs and actions. Through pieces of literature, the assumed social classes that are split, are only the rich and poor. However, in this novel only the upper class is spoken of and through the characters thoughts and opinions, it is clear that social division exists even within this social class. Austen uses Lady Catherine to symbolize the existence of the prejudice views and expectations of being apart of the upper class. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are the two lovers who go against society 's expectations and find love within each other. Although, at first the two lovers were not so attracted to each other in the beginning because of their difference in social status and this revealed how the class conflicts caused tension amongst lovers. Mr. Collins is a representation of the lower higher class and Austen uses this character to prove the existence of the clear division in the upper class. Austen is successful in proving the existence of social separation and makes it evidently clear that, though two people may have different social ranks and live in a demanding society. Two people who are in love can break these social norms and live happily together. This goes to show that one must sometimes go against society to achieve their own
