The book and movie versions of Pride and Prejudice are very similar, although there are some subtle differences. The length of the book allows for more time to slowly develop the characters and change them from past to present state more gradually. For example, Mr. Darcy begins the story as an arrogant and hardened man. Throughout the book, he changes very slowly into a loving, devoted husband. In the movie, he starts out just the same as in the book. However, he shows signs of love and vulnerability much earlier in the movie than in the book. Additionally, Mr. Bingley and his relationship with Jane is a much bigger deal in the book than the movie.
