Prewriting: The Writing Before The Writing Process

Decent Essays
Prewriting is the writing before the writing. It helps make better writing. It makes it easier to write and easier to read for the reader. It helps to stay on focus and make logical topic changes. First write what the topic is of the piece of writing. Secondly write what format it should be written in. Then write who the audience is or who will be reading what you write. This is important because the complexity would be very different if it is being written to a seven year old verses a teacher. Since I am not allowed at school, I gave Kaitlin the outline of "A Stream in the Ravine". Guy and I both worked on it in class and he told me he would turn it in because the bell had rung. When you handed papers back, you gave it to me. I have talked to Guy and he said he turned it in.…

I am starting with conciseness which basically means covering all of the key points that are required to be incorporated in the written communication. First thing to remember is that you are conveying the information in as few words as possible with no repetition or needless information. For example, when I create a call screen at work that is directed to our first responders, I place relevant information in that screen that will describe exactly what kind of call they are responding to. I try to leave out any information that is not significant,…

Before I begin my outline I had to determine how I was going to present it. However with all the materials I collected, I was able to create my message. I had to prepare myself by coming up with an introduction, purpose statement, and main idea and listed the main idea throughout the body of my outline. In between the bodies I placed signposts to transition the information I was speaking. This will allow the audience to navigate where they are in the speech.…

In the beginning, I looked at the different ways of preparing for a paper and one stuck out to me. I would write an outline of what I wanted to write about and then I would make sub-headings under each bulletin describing what each topic would talk about. I used this process more with my research papers than with the narrative essays because I could see what facts I needed to look up and which ones I already knew. For the non-research essays, I wrote the first sentence to every paragraph first. After that I would write an outline of what I wanted to talk about in each paragraph.…
