Prewriting Strategies Analysis

Decent Essays
The prewriting strategy that I like most is a combination of brainstorming and listening. It's a combination because I will record my ideas (brainstorming) about what I will write about. Then listing to my brainstorm in a form of a recording, it comes a combination strategy. I find this combination of both strategies to work well for me. Being that English is my second langue, when I brainstorming my ideas onto a paper I get stuck trying to spell a word and losing my train of thought. By switching to recording myself while brainstorming I can dump all my ideas fluently. I can then listen and go back and forth on my recording while writing my paper. One recent idea that I generated from using this strategy was on my assignment for last week

Prior to this class, I had never even heard of pre-writing. However, this simple trick is very helpful when trying to begin a plan in your mind. Also, I had never physically made an outline to follow while writing a research paper. I would form a rough outline mentally but would always become scatter brained and forget what else I…

In regards to my writing process, there have been some central strategies that I have developed over time and some strategies that I have had for as long as I can remember. For example, one skill that I have developed from high school has been to annotate, mark up, and take notes throughout my readings. I found that taking notes really helps me, not only to remember what I read but to go back and be able to point out something in my reading easily. In addition, it helped me understand the readings better.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

It seems it is as though good thoughts come in short bursts and it is hard to have a good story revolve around one great moment. With that said, I try to keep good ideas and piece them together one by one to create something manageable. Sometimes it works out just fine, but the majority of the time these ideas become scrapped and are recycled for something else entirely. I have a habit of writing with music, the sounds encompass a tone that I wish to put down on paper. Certain beats and sounds trigger a specific response in my thoughts and in turn as I write down my thoughts my writing becomes more fluid thanks to the music.…

What are some writing strategies I have incorporated into my writing style? Until this year I have never used a specific way of writing, I have always just written down what comes to my mind and then edited it to make it sound better. While being in dual English I have learned some new skills that will have a significant change in my writing, and I have decided to start incorporating these writing strategies to help my writing skills grow, they are, brainstorming, outlining what I am going to be writing about and how I am going to write about it, and using writing patterns to follow a map of how my essay is going to be written, through the use of these writing strategies my writing skills have greatly improved in just a short amount of time.…

Prewriting is the beginning stage of the writing process, and there are some things I like to do before I am prepared to write the opening statement. The best way I start is by asking myself the question of, what should I be writing about? Figuring out what is the topic or theme of what I am writing about is one of them. If I choose something that moves you in some way, my writing is more likely to be interesting to the reader. So, “Why would I want to write about it?”…

Over the entire semester, I have learnt a lot of useful writing skills and techniques from the ENG 107 course. All the writing projects that I did in this course are very meaningful and useful. Moreover, I have changed my writing style from disorder to well organized followed by the outline whenever I start a writing project. After taking ENG 107, I felt that it helps me to improve my writing not only for the writing projects in this course but also my other course. First of all, several steps should be done before we start to write our first draft for all the writing projects.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

Procrastination My writing process can be best described as a just-write procrastinator (if it a new term, I am trade marking it). If an assignment is due, I tend not to write anything until the last minute, and then I begin to just write as much as possible. It is a burden to write as much as possible at the last minute, but if I try to do anything before, nothing comes out. Professors and students talk about doing an outline, or some brainstorming to help with the writing process.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
