To start, professionals are able to catch the early stages of diseases and illnesses. “Diagnostic tests are usually done to find out what is causing certain symptoms” (“Benefits and Risks” 1). Screening tests do the opposite. A patient is able to come in and get tested for any number of illnesses, whether they feel sick or not. When these procedures are taken, doctors are able to discover the earliest stages of any disease. The earlier the abnormality is diagnosed, “the easier and more effective treatment generally is” (“The Importance” 1). If a condition is discovered at a later stage, it can destroy a person’s quality of life as a whole. Symptoms begin to appear, severity increases, and treatment is more extensive. These in turn can hinder a person’s family involvement, job opportunities, and overall happiness in life. To start, all forms of medical care is expensive. If preventive services are utilized, cost could be reduced because treatment is less. Fortunately, a number of insurance policies cover a number of preventive procedures. “The Affordable Care Act (ACA) makes preventive care affordable and accessible by requiring private health plans to cover certain recommended preventive services without charging a deductible, copayment, coinsurance, or other cost sharing” (“Preventive Health Care.” 1). This allows people to partake in the benefits of preventive care without having to pay the full cost. However, if a person does not have the disease or illness that they were tested for, a loss of money could be experienced. On the other hand, this patient now has the piece of mind that they are healthy, and, as of now, they do not have a risk of becoming ill. After testing, if a person does end up discovering a condition, the early treatment will save money because it is easier and more efficient than the later treatment. There will be less pay for less treatment. If all benefits are taken advantage of, it will become clear that preventive care can save both insurance companies and people
