Preventional Education Vs Correctional Education

What has the edge, preventional education or correctional education. Should more money be spent on young children learning or on adults who want a better education and a second chance to make something of themselves. Most people would agree with spending more money on preventional education because it would be a better option with our children learning. Some people would disagree with spending money on correctional education because it involves teaching inmates and people who made a choice to do crimes. The side that I have chosen is funding correctional education because some inmates actually take their future into consideration. For inmates that get out into the world with an education would be less likely to commit another crime and get back into prison. Recidivism is the criminal behavior which means how many inmates get out of prison and how many return. The state that has the most return rate is California. California has the most returns rate because of the “state’s large percentage of the nation’s prison population and the fact that California’s rate of return to prison is traditionally high” (Crime in America). We can maybe reduce the prisons populations in California if the inmates can know what having an education can do. Educating prisoners can lower down the recidivism rate. Younger inmates are the ones that return to prison more often rather than older inmates because they aren’t getting the attention that they need. With the correctional program the young inmates can be given the skills that can help them when they get out into the world. Something that if we fund the correctional education inmates will want to be someone and learn what they are interested in. Inmates don’t have to be in classes to learn. Inmates that are in an educational program in prison are less likely to go back to prison. They are less likely to go back to prison because while they are in prison the inmates that go to an educational program will get some sort of college degree and that can help them when they get out of prison. With the inmates that get a college degree they will find a job and with that they will start a new life. The inmates that are in prison don’t have many educational skills. “The premise behind ABE is that many inmates lack basic abilities in reading, writing, and mathematics” (Smith p. 5). Believe it or not many prisons have libraries and they work together with colleges, and public libraries do offer the inmates
