Teenage pregnancy is very common around the world, it has become a major issue as most of the time these pregnancies are unwanted. There are many factors that effect teen pregnancy from education to the availability of contraception, which explains why countries that have a low socioeconomic status have more young girls pregnant than those of a higher socioeconomic background.

They believe they will be treated and respected like an adult. The absence of love and strong relations in the teenager’s life gives them hope that with a baby the future relationships created will be stronger and healthier. Most teen mother suffer from a moderate to a severe depression during the first year according to a cohort study. Teenage mothers are less like to complete their education, hence unqualified. The children of these young mothers are also disadvantaged as they are less likely to be breast-fed compared to babies of older mothers, hence are more susceptible to illness.
The key to preventing teenage pregnancy is education. Early childhood interventions and youth development program can reduce teenage pregnancy by informing children from a young age. Sexual education can teach young teens the means of safe sexual intercourse with a physical barrier such as a condom that will ensure young girls do not become pregnant. Educating adolescents can give them control to decide if they want to risk getting pregnant. This will reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies drastically.
