Preventionists need interpersonal skills to create relationships with individuals and communities and be able to maintain these relationships (Dougherty, 2010). Building rapport is a key factor in interpersonal skills. The preventionist must be able to build rapport with the teenagers from the community in order for them to open up and express themselves on such a sensitive topic. Another skill necessary for preventionists to consume is communication skills. It is essential for a professional’s language to be constructive and precise (Dougherty, 2010). The messages being displayed received need to hold the appropriate content and meaning (Dougherty, 2010). It is important for the preventionist to communicate with the teenagers on a level they will understand and comprehend. It is important the teenagers understand the message of teen pregnancy and the consequences of teen intercourse. The third skill needed to be a successful preventionist is problem-solving skills. Preventionists will run into problems, which is why it is crucial to have the skills to tackle the problems (Dougherty, 2010). The preventionist will run into several problems when working with teenagers, which is why it is important to come up with solutions and use different techniques to solve the
