Even as smartphones become increasingly prevalent in the hands of teenagers, making communication easier, that ease of communication can also lead to harmful effects as well. When someone texts and drives, it is hazardous to their own lives as well as the lives of the other drivers on the road. That lack of attention is the cause of many accident nationwide and is responsible for the death of hundreds of people every year. These deaths and injuries are entirely preventable, provided that something is done to promote driver responsibility. The government should be more active in preventing texting and driving by promoting new technology in cars, enforcing harsher punishments, and using propaganda to show the dangers.
