Preventing Hospital Shootings

Decent Essays
Hospital shootings are not common, but do occur. This places the patients and staff at risk. It has always been a social contract with our patients and the public that medical staff have always been neutral and protected. This goes back in history for centuries. Unfortunately, the rate of violence is growing and one area that is seeing the greatest rise is in the emergency department. Most hospitals already have security in place at the hospital to help safeguard patients and staff, but these guards are usually unarmed. Armed guards could add an additional level of protection. It has been well documented within law enforcement that the best response to an active shooter is with a fast response and meeting the shooter with armed resistance.

In this advertisement the visual image being used is two children. One holding a piece of chocolate and one holding a gun that seems to be a classroom. The argument that’s being displayed I believe is that why should firearms be banned. The writer’s dialogue in the ad is successful in showing the argument. The fact that the writer gives the audience a choice of answering a question whether a child should have the option of protection or not brings people’s moral and opinion to this.…

We live in a world where danger lurks around every corner. At a moments notice you can go from enjoying a day in the sun to being a victim of a mass shooting. Our world is so unpredictable that I personally believe that everyone who can, should carry to protect themselves and everyone else around them. This is the true fact for community correction officers.…

With the increase of schools considering arming teachers as protection, prices are likely to pose an issue. According to Scott Whitman, an administrator at Jackson County School district looking into arming teachers in his school, said the cost would be the greatest factor. To arm and train ten teacher would easily exceed $25,000 a year, which both administrators and tax payers believe is an unneeded expense. To add to the already large expense, many teachers will ask to make a higher wage due to the fact that they are taking on more responsibilities (Yaccino, 2013).…

School shootings are a trend that unfortunately has been getting popular for more than a decade. This is causing schools to increase security and prepare for a potential war against unknown individuals. This has shown a negative effect on a significant amount of students who now see school as unsafe. Metal detectors, security cameras, and many other security safeguards have been a regular necessity for schools. Instead of using these things as a last resort effort to prevent violence there needs to be a less invasive plan in place that limits the security presence on campuses without it being overwhelming.…

Along with roughly 600 years of guns’ history, guns have always been very influential and they have become the quotidian tools which people would use to hunt for food and protect their loved ones. Unfortunately, in recent time, the wave of anti-gun has expanded due to some of the mass killings happened sporadically around the globe that makes publics believe that guns would only be dangerous tools. Crowding of Emergency Departments (ED) is a major problem that not only effects the patients seeking medical attention, but the hospital staff trying to provide effective and quality care. With so many factors contributing to the overcrowding issue, it is impossible for nurses to resolve the situation without assistance. “The intense and continuous work overload, combined with the lack of response from organizational management, can compromise the work process and the quality of the healthcare service provided to the population.” (George & Evridiki, 2015) However, nurses do have a unique role within the healthcare system where they can utilize different strategies and implement new policies to promote safety, improve patient outcomes, and…
