Prevalen People Against Nonviolence

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “At the center of nonviolence stands the principle of love.” Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the biggest advocates of demonstration through civil disobedience in world history. The purpose of civil disobedience is to be able to peacefully protest laws. This type of outcry can spur change without the violence other types of protests involve. It is the best way for citizens to express their discontent with the government and current laws without causing injury or excessive disruption. This is especially relevant today. They might argue that it is purely disruptive and does not institute change. As can be shown throughout the history of the world, this is not true by any means. It is ridiculous to claim peaceful protests cause no change when there is so much evidence of the difference made. These demonstrations are not disruptive, and if they go against the government protesters accept the consequences. Others might argue that violence is the answer and the only way to cause change. This is simply preposterous. Hurting and killing others is a barbaric practice that should not have any part in protest. People do not respond well to violence, and one small act can lead to an uncontrollable amount. Like a wildfire, it is easy to lose control of violent situations. Without a doubt, peaceful protest positively impacts a free nation. It allows citizens to express their grievances in a way that does not harm society. Violence is never the answer, and accepting injustice is unthinkable for groups advocating for change. Martin Luther King Jr. would be happy with how far civil disobedience has come in the United
