After the defeat of the Nazis in World War II, America entered a time of “cold war” at home. The Nazis were conquered but the Soviets and the communist party had put a target on America, causing the second Red Scare. The government was terrified of being spied on, as they too had spies in communist countries. President Truman crafted Executive Order 9835 or the Loyalty Order, to try and identify spies within the government. This order was over the line for many, like Henry Steele Commager, but to others, like Joseph R. McCarthy, it was not enough to catch all the communist who infiltrated the American government.…

Many of the advancements in aeronautics throughout World War II and after the war in aerospace were, in part, due to the work of women. Much of the work during the war was production oriented, but there were also many women with degrees in mathematics who held positions during the war that led to major contributions in the fields of aeronautics and later in aerospace. These women were employed by the government in positions that allowed them to increase the ability of the U.S. to wage a modern math-dependent war through the air. It is through the possibilities afforded during World War II that many African American female mathematicians gained entry into disciplines such as aeronautics, space research, and computer technology. The common…

During the 1940s, America had prepared for World War II. At the time, African-American citizens saw this as an opportunity for the expansion of jobs and positions in the American defense system. This widely though belief was quickly devastated after employers refused to hire African-Americans. A. Philip Randolph, president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, had discussed in a private meeting with President Roosevelt about allowing equal employment opportunities and to desegregate the armed forces. President Roosevelt explained to Randolph he would address this issue however as time passed, no order was given to the armed forces.…

In Senator Ellison DuRant Smith of South Carolina’s speech, A Congressional Address, he is predominantly trying to persuade the other senators to “shut the door” to immigration as he refers to their breed as “the breed of a dog” and describes them as “dumb, driven cattle” yet the irony behind all this nonsense is that America was born by immigrants and to this day is still mostly ran by immigrants. Senator Smith approaches immigration in a negative way as he states,”...regard to the salvation of our own, let us shut the door and assimilate what we have…” Despite his anti-immigration policy Americans still found a way to fight through that barrier and be able to build up to what we are today. Through the founding fathers, anglo-saxon’s gained…

This political cartoon mentions the White House blocking the media to avoid leaking confidential information out. We can see that through the image "Media Access" is just a tiny entrance. The opposite image of "Open Government" along with a strict door-to-door picture of the house shows a lull. These two images have raised the question of whether the government is truly open-minded as promised while there are policies to hide information. In my opinion, the act of media sanctions is Mr. Trump's response to reporters against him.…
