Regarding executive appointments only the President can nominate a member for the Supreme Court and those at the court of appeals level, but he also nominates ambassadors, members of his cabinet, and other high positions within the government. These positions require senate approval so in this sense the President is limited in electing whomever he pleases. The power of the executive is also limited in that the Supreme Court can veto legislation or executive orders passed by the President if they regard it as unconstitutional. On legislative power the President can recommend legislation to Congress, inform Congress on the State of the Union address, and veto legislation. In the State of the Union address the President informs Congress on his plans for the Country as a means of obtaining their cooperation but also as a way of communicating his intentions with the public about his agenda …show more content…
Two Presidents have been impeached in United States history Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, and in both of those examples they were acquitted of their crimes. Richard Nixon would have been impeached for his Watergate scandal but he resigned office before impeachment took place. Nixon was pardoned of his crime by President Ford which was controversial at the time. Article 2 section 4 of The Constitution states that “the President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” In 1998 President Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice but nevertheless he remained in office.
