The 2016 Presidential election has to be the most controversial election in American history. The first Presidential debate brought much excitement to viewers because this is the first time Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump we would be seen together. The debate was a time for all voters to listen to both Presidential candidates’ positions on America. The debate allows candidates to grab undecided voters or to get the opposing candidates voters to change their mind about who they will vote for on November 8th. The claims candidates make at debates are under pressure to be true. Candidates are known to have fact-checks working for them to prove the other candidate is making inaccurate claims. At the first debate, Donald J. Trump, and Hillary Clinton …show more content…
They explained Hillary’s thoughts on the NAFTA deal when she praised it at a union meeting in 1996. Hillary clarified her views during that meeting stating, “It would expand U.S. exports, create jobs and ensure that our economy was reaping the benefits, not the burdens, of globalization.” (CNN 1). Hillary clearly lied about her views on NAFTA during the debate telling American voters she was against it. She told the union workers in 1996 that NAFTA would bring economic benefits America in the future. Hillary did an old fashion political flip flop to get voters to side with her by picking a policy position solely on what Americans want to …show more content…
The main topic for Mr. Hannity’s show focused on Hillary Clinton acting like a political robot, and Donald Trump dominating the debate. He believes no information or thoughts comes from Hillary Clintons heart, everything is scripted. Hannity was convinced Donald Trump won the first debate by a land-slide. He thought Trump brought the fight to Hillary making her play defense the whole debate. This spin-off was positive for Trump and negative for Hillary. Fox News is known to lean more to the right than any other media outlet. This plays a major role on why the spin-off was positive for Donald Trump. I believe Hannity’s personal opinion affected the spin-off to make Hillary Clinton look like she was

Frequently, Trump personally attacks fellow candidates on issues that are completely irrelevant to the debate, such as Marco Rubio’s height. Consequently, Trump’s antics and his opponents’ reactions make the Republican debates memorable, reducing the amount of time and media coverage that could have been used to discuss serious issues plaguing our nation, such as poverty and gender inequality. The political debates are platforms in which citizens can decide which candidate’s policies they prefer, however, people derive entertainment from them, shown by how people make jokes about the debates such as #Trumpface, comparing Trump’s facial expressions to emojis, which trended on Twitter, rather than information pertaining to the stances presented. Aforementioned, Trump received more coverage, especially evening news weighing in with 54 percent of the coverage from ABC, NBC, and FOX, than any other candidate. The lack of reportage of the alternative contenders mostly affects the majority of younger voters who are Democratic or independent.…

In a recent presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton argued their character, and if they are fit to serve as president of the United States or not. Throughout their debate they depended on both rhetorical fallacies and strategies to build their arguments and prove their capability to run this country. Although the arguments made by the candidates seem to be just repetitive nuances of common issues, this debate gives us an idea of the duties and character traits a president must obtain. From start to finish, the candidates in this debate use rhetorical strategies to make their arguments stand out.…

As Lester Holt introduced the candidates and the debate, the rhetorical approach pathos was used before the candidates even opened their mouths. Hillary Clinton had a warm inviting facial expression as she entered the stage, as to where Donald Trump looked stuck up and had a disgusted look as if he didn’t want to be at the debate. Continuing on with the pathos appeal, Clinton demonstrated it by saying, “he would start his businesses with 14 million borrowed from his father and he really believes that the more you help wealthy people the better off will be and that everything will work out from there” then stating how she doesn't buy that and talks about her experience saying, “my father was a small businessman he worked really hard he printed drapery fabrics on long tables…” she then states that, “I believe the more we can do for the middle class the more we can invest in you, your education, your skills, your future, the better we will…

In a Presidential race filled with various media channels and an overwhelming number of candidates, the public must be media literate, but more importantly, candidate literate. Therefore, the job of the public to make an informed decision extends beyond simply reading the news—it must analyze and interpret the information. One candidate who recently appeared in the public eye after the second Republican debate is Carly Fiorina. In the beginning, she was a nobody, but between the span of September 17 to September 23, Fiorina rose to fame. As the only woman running for the GOP nomination, she has a standard to uphold.…

I definitely agree with everything that James W. Ceaser stated in his writing. I do firmly believe that strengthened political parties would help our electoral process instead of having ruthless candidates “strengthened” by their organizations and here’s why. Before, candidates used to be chosen by members of the party; they would choose whoever was best fit to carry out the party’s platform the best. Since then, however, this idea has been long gone, which leads parties to have no direct influence over what candidate will be chosen. Political parties are no longer and identifier when people are asked who they are voting for or which side they are on. This is a very significant because it is one of the biggest issues of today’s election system, campaigns now are focused more than ever on candidates rather than the party platform.…

Clinton did not have as large of a media presence as Sanders but still performed the strongest of all five candidates. “Hillary has had a rough start trying to run for president again,” Eric Sheppard, a judge in Travis County, said. “But after watching the debate, I can tell she is ready and prepared to handle anything thrown her way as president.” Clinton’s camp told MSNBC that her campaign was riding on her either doing poor or extremely well in this debate. The Kennedy-Nixon presidential election of 1960 made history with “The Great Debates”, the first ever televised presidential debates. The election’s outcome was greatly affected by these debates. This was one of the most important elections in American history because, for the first time, candidates were being judged not only on their ideas and opinions, but also on their physical appearance and ability to perform on live television (History.com Staff). This new form of media greatly affected voters’ opinions and final decision. John F. Kennedy, the democratic candidate, was senator from Massachusetts and had only served for one term.…

The Vice Presidential debate that occurred on October 4th 2016 was important to people across the united states. It is clear that many citizens are undecided on who to vote for, the point of this debate was to give clarity to voters and to reassure the American people of their views. I was hoping this debate would be better than the presidential debate however it seemed to be the same; Tim Kaine interrupting and Mike Pence constantly being on the defense. Despite the interruptions both candidates made a few good points that are essential to consider when making a decision. Both sides made strong arguments.…

The second presidential debate was at the Washington University in St. Louis. The moderators for the debate were CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC’s Martha Raddatz. The debate was divided into six 15 minute segments, with topics about immigration, national security, health care and many more. In the beginning of the debate a member from the audience asked each candidate if “they feel that they are modeling appropriate and positive behavior for today’s youth, knowing that educators assign viewing the presidential debates as student’s homework?” Each candidate completely ignored the question and went off topic.…

During the campaigning our lives revolved around news jam-packed with predictions and contentious headlines about both the Republican and Democratic candidates. All the while many of us had high hopes for the future mixed with the fear that polls are not always accurate and dreams do not always come true. She wants the illegal immigrant to be able to afford obama care and I think that if you are gonna be in our country you need to be legal it isn 't fair that the people who have lived here their whole lives can’t afford health care, but those who are here illegally can afford health care and other things we Americans can’t afford. Hillary is committed to doubling the funding for primary-care services at community health centers. She also supports President Obama’s call for a near tripling of the size of the National Health Service Corps.
