As soon as presidential candidates begin campaigning, there are key issues that they bring up repeatedly in order to show what the main focuses of their presidency would be. They are convincing people why they are worthy of public support. During the 2016 presidential candidacy, an issue that was brought up time and time again was immigration. Presidential candidate Donald Trump began his campaign by declaring, “When Mexico sends its people, they 're not sending their best. [...] They 're sending people that have lots of problems, and they 're bringing those problems with us. They 're bringing drugs. They 're bringing crime. They 're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” These claims made headlines when a man who is both a businessman and a reality TV star made the promise to deport eleven million undocumented immigrants and build a wall along the border between the United States and Mexico, thus making immigration a main focus during the candidacy. Trump has also claimed that he would ban Muslims from entering the country until United States representatives can figure out what to do in regards to national safety. Trump referenced Pew Research and made the claim that “among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.” Because of this supposed hatred, Trump believes we should prioritize the safety of the country and put a ban into place.
