To be a president of such great country as the United States is a big privilege, the huge power, and in the same time a hard work. Abraham Lincoln is coming from very humble beginnings. His family was usual farmers, and Abraham Lincoln as male child had to work in the farm with his father Thomas Lincoln, so he grown to be pretty strong for his young age. Abraham 's parents barely could write their name while Abraham could read and write. Abraham would go out to his neighbors to lend a book from them, because the only book they had in the house was the Bible. Later his mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln died from a disease that she got from drinking contaminated cow 's milk. Leaving Thomas Lincoln alone with the kids. Soon comes new stepmother for Lincoln, her name was Sarah. She was the one that saw potential in Lincoln with education he had. The talent and uniqueness gave him chance to change his life to better. Lincoln had to do a lot of self-education. Later his family decided to move to Illinois and settled in New Salem. Lincoln had couple jobs during that time that included postmaster, surveying and he tried to operate his own store which later failed. He fascinated the citizens with his character and got the nickname “Honest Abe” for repaying the debts of his failed business. Indians riot known as the Black Hawk War erupted, Lincoln decided to volunteer to join the forces. He became the leader of the volunteer crew.
